Walk in historical town centre

This is an easy walk in the historical centre of Sorico, from piazza Cesare Battisti, leaving the car in a fairly wide parking next to state road Regina.

Crossing the road, there is the church of Santo Stefano (1447), built when the centre of the parish passed from the ancient Roman Olonium to Sorico. The bell tower goes back to the date of the original building and its shape reminds that of a warning tower. The other parts of the church, inside and outside, are more recent.

If you like to climb up a bit, you can take the mule track near the church that goes to San Miro; if you’d rather go for an easier walk, wander the small roads behind the church and admire the lovely houses and gardens of the inhabitants of Sorico, until the remains of the stately Villa Giulini.

If you have children, a nice conclusion of your walk is a stop at the playground behind the town hall or in one of the bars on the square, and later you might go on walking towards the lake (on the right of the local tourist info point) and the river Mera.
